About Cannexus 2023

Cannexus23 is expected to be a hybrid conference with a live in-person portion to be held at the Shaw Centre in Ottawa, Canada and a virtual portion. It will take place January 23-25, 2023. In the past, our live conferences have drawn more than 1,200 delegates and our virtual conferences more than 2,300, making Cannexus the largest bilingual conference of its kind in the country. This dual format for the 17th annual conference offers the best of both worlds. No matter how you participate, Cannexus will provide an accessible, content-rich and value-packed opportunity for Canada's career development communities to convene, share and learn.

Thoroughly enjoyed my first Cannexus conference

What did you like best about the event?

The variety of topics covered and that there is the option to attend virtually.

What could the organizers do to improve the event?

Being able to filter the sessions would have been helpful. English/French, in-person/virtual. If there was a way to do this, I didn’t figure it out.

The quality and variety of presentations were great.

What did you like best about the event?

The presenters and key note speakers all did a great job engaging with the audience.

What could the organizers do to improve the event?

The hallway meetings were a disaster, and due to their constantly changing times, I could not attend.

Wonderful experience with a very engaged group of participants.

What did you like best about the event?

I liked the hybrid model. It is a lot of work to do both in-person and virtually, but the organizers pulled it off.

What could the organizers do to improve the event?

In terms of improvement, there is nothing I can think of at this time. It was great.

Reunited with old friends and new ideas

What did you like best about the event?

It was great to be back in person! So many hugs and friendly smiles that don't translate the same through screens. Connections with professionals from across the country were a highlight

What could the organizers do to improve the event?

More structured networking times. Free time is great, but connecting with the right people can be hard.

Cannexus23 was a great opportunity to meet new people and connect with familiar faces. I really enjoyed attending the sessions, as each one was an opportunity to learn and connect. I look forward to returning next year!

What did you like best about the event?

The people are really friendly, and I met many great new contacts I hope to connect with throughout the year and again at next year's conference.

What could the organizers do to improve the event?

When you post mentimeter links in the main hall, leave the link information up for a little longer so people can catch up!

Easy, lots of information, seminar options, and a good layout!

What did you like best about the event?

The Keynote speakers were wonderful as a grounding session, both men were fabulous in the way they told their story.

What could the organizers do to improve the event?

I think there are some fine-tuning things regarding the hybrid conference. I think having some viewing parties in the smaller rooms would be helpful.

I enjoyed both the keynotes, the sessions on AI and new tech, as well as the content on upskilling/reskilling and building programming to do that.

Being a virtual speaker was easier than anticipated, and very user-friendly with lots of support.

What did you like best about the event?

Lots of diversity of thought and experience represented online (and in person, I gather).

What could the organizers do to improve the event?

I found some technical issues with pathable as a platform from the virtual side. I could never access my camera and often had to join meetings externally using zoom for interactive functions. I also had random bouts of errors where my page would suddenly reload with an error message, this happened while I was speaking during my live session, but I could continue with my zoom call uninterrupted.

Virtual Speaker and In-Person attendee.

What did you like best about the event?

It was so good to be able to network and see people in person. I think more deliberate networking time in the exhibitor hall or small group discussion venues would have been an excellent addition.

What could the organizers do to improve the event?

It felt like there were two separate but parallel conferences taking place I was a virtual speaker but attended in person and felt a bit disjointed I think a little more blending of sessions would be helpful. As an in-person attendee, I found the plenary speakers that were recorded and broadcast in the big hall did not work well. Perhaps having plenaries live at the event and then broadcasting via zoom would work better.

THE Best of the BEST - a must!

What did you like best about the event?

Seamlessly planned, great and comfortable venue, engaging facilitators make this conference enjoyable for everyone. Feeling well surrounded by therapist, professors, counsellors that use theory and practice to capacity build with others, whether they are just starting in the field or need a new perspective after having worked for a substantial period in the field.

What could the organizers do to improve the event?

I would like to have had the option of participating in both in-person and virtual workshops and not having to choose one or the other. I attended in person but had to leave a bit earlier every day and would have liked to pick up a virtual session later in the day. Would also like some virtual sessions recorded to be able to listen in on lunch breaks after the conference, etc.
