Hi! SubOptic 2023, the industry-renowned submarine telecoms conference, will be held in Bangkok, Thailand from 13-16 March 2023. A triennial event, the SubOptic conference is the longest running and most comprehensive conference series in the world for the submarine cable industry.

Connecting and stimulating. I learned a lot and met new people.
What did you like best about the event?
Excellent content and relaxed. Good delivery of the presentation. The location was good.
What could the organizers do to improve the event?
Better temperature control. Some of the meeting rooms were freezing. Screens needed to be higher as the speakers obstructed them.

A perfect event for networking and discussing business with colleagues in the industry.
What did you like best about the event?
Networking opportunities through the various evening functions or the breaks and lunch. The telegeography presentation was excellent!
What could the organizers do to improve the event?
Some presentations should offer more time for Q&A. There should be fewer roundtable sessions but with more time.

Very helpful events for marketing and future forecast
What did you like best about the event?
Exchange opinions with other attendees. Listening to the talks and attending round tables. Meeting with suppliers and customers, and friends.
What could the organizers do to improve the event?
More technical papers and more time for oral presentations. More topics for the round table and more specialised.

A great gathering of the Industry
What did you like best about the event?
The chance to meet with people I had not seen since pre-covid and learn about the latest technological developments in our industry.
What could the organizers do to improve the event?
Many things could have been improved. 1) The venue wasn't the greatest space, Meeting Rooms 1 and 2 were too small, and the shapes were not particularly great. 2) the layout of the event and design was not optimised. The break area outside Hall 2 should have been in Hall 1, and the conference exhibition stands should have been in the break area so that exhibitors saw a much higher footfall. I expect the exhibitors won't feel they got value for money. Seating should have been available in the break area as everyone had to stand for all the meals and snacks. The small amount of meeting tables was not enough. 3) The food was poor. The mix of food served for breaks and meals was very random. There were often savoury sandwiches and sweet treats that did not complement each other. The sandwiches were of the type I would expect in a railway cafe, not an expensive conference. The finger food often was not finger food, required two hands, and was messy. Where was the tropical fruit Thailand was famous for? For me, the food was the biggest disappointment. 4) The PA system broke down during my presentation, and I had to finish my presentation without a mic in Hall 2, the largest room.

Mixing commercial and scientific topics of optical fibres.
What did you like best about the event?
The scientific sensing sessions were very interesting and complete. The organization was well done.

Some talks on similar topics were at the same time in different sessions, so I had to choose.
