Speaker’s Corner: Featuring Luciano Johnson, CISM, CRISC, Sr. Information Security Manager, Grupo Madero

We believe our world is moving in a direction where it will be more connected, security intelligence must always be present with a high capacity of understanding. AI will be, each day, more responsible for this, and our environment must be omnipresent, in other words, Hybrid cloud is the way to support it, says Luciano Johnson, CISM, CRISC, Sr. Information Security Manager, Grupo Madero.

Tell us more about Grupo Madero

Grupo Madero was created in 2005, by Junior Durski, our President and CEO. Grupo Madero is a restaurant chain in Brazil, with more than 230 units across 70 cities in Brazil. There are more than 8000 employees. Our current brands are: Madero, Jeronimo and EcoParadaMadero.

What are the emerging trends within the information and security space?

Our major trend is the increase in cybersecurity maturity and only one year, with privacy law requirements. This maturity is over security processes, tools and managed services.

What in your opinion is the future of hybrid cloud and AI within the scope of security, and how can technology be actively used to make a difference?

We believe that our world will be more connected and our security intelligence must be always present and with high capacity of understanding. AI will be, each day, more responsible for this, and our environment must be omnipresent, in other words, Hybrid cloud is the way to support it. Today everyone thinks in connectivity, but we can leave behind Presence (Cloud is our best way).

What is your biggest objective as a speaker?

First of all, my objective is to share knowledge. There a lot of people who search for ways to learn. And for a speaker with my background, I believe that could help and contribute with then.

Could you share with us the points of discussion during the panel(s) at the IBM Think 2021 conference?

How to start a security program to increase quickly maturity.

  • Risk based approach
  • Learn and Transform security
  • How to verify your effort and goals
  • Building a team with knowledge into a collaborative environment

As a leader, what are the factors both professional and personal that drive you? What keeps you going?

Some of the professional factors include – the study, the use and best practices and standards that help with being updated. To be a part of a professional association such as the ISACA. This helps me work towards my goals, helps me love my job which I do with care.

Some of the personal factors that drive me is to hear people out and be connected to family while trying to be the best version of myself in the room.

In your opinion, do digital events give you a similar level of feedback/result vis-à-vis the live versions? What would you say were the biggest pros and cons of both formats? Which do you prefer?

Eye contact is very important and is crucial to understand what is happening with an audience – what speakers do have an effect on the audience and this is crucial to the overall experience. In my presentations I always try to understand to be more precise. Some digital events could do it in their platforms. Presential events are more effective to do networking and share thoughts out of the rooms. Digital events the audience share with others tasks, some times are bad.

Eventible.com is a review platform specially catering to B2B events. Given how review-driven our lives have become today, do you think reviews will bring in a level of transparency to the events industry? Would you rely on event reviews from other speakers if you had to make a speaking decision?

I believe that reviews are important to understand what happened and to decide (plan) the next step. The content of each review is decision factor to make a speaking decision.
