Joneigh S. Khaldun, MD, MPH, FACEP is a nationally recognized healthcare executive, health policy and public health expert who currently serves as the Vice President and Chief Health Equity Officer for CVS Health. In this role she advances strategy, programs and policy to improve outcomes and access to care for the over 100 million people CVS Health serves every day. Prior to this, she served as Chief Medical Executive for the State of Michigan and Chief Deputy Director for Health in the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, where she oversaw operations of all public health, Medicaid, behavioral health, and aging services, leading and managing a staff of over 3,000 people and a $1 billion budget. She was the lead strategist guiding Michigan’s COVID-19 response and in 2021 was appointed by President Biden to the COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force. Dr. Khaldun is a frequently sought after national public speaker and has participated in over 100 live press conferences, testified in Congress multiple times, and has been featured on several national media outlets including Meet the Press, Good Morning America, and CNN. Dr. Khaldun has spearheaded the design and implementation of several system-changing projects at the intersection of public health and clinical medicine. Her expertise is in clinical program design, change management, and developing processes, programs and services that improve quality and access to care, particularly in underserved populations. As Detroit's Health Commissioner, she led development of a new reproductive health clinical service delivery model, assessing and designing new strategies and public-private partnerships to address gaps in care and social determinants of health. Her leadership contributed to Detroit having the lowest infant mortality rate ever recorded in history in 2019. She also designed the city's opioid overdose response efforts and led the city's response to the largest hepatitis A outbreak in modern US history by collaborating with health systems, providers, and community based organizations. Dr. Khaldun also served as Chief Medical Officer of the Baltimore City Health Department, overseeing operations of seven clinics and leading engagement of the city's physicians and hospital leaders to address youth violence, the opioid epidemic, and infectious disease outbreaks. She is a practicing emergency medicine physician at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit as well a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network and CHIEF.
