Bio

I am an award-winning writer, editor, and all-around media pro. I am currently Managing Director at Cavan Communications, a content marketing and strategy firm that helps organizations find and tell their most powerful, resonant stories. Before joining Cavan, I spent two decades as a journalist, most recently as Editor-at-Large for Inc magazine and Inc.com. At Inc, I wrote feature stories, columns, and news analysis mostly (but not exclusively) about women, business, and entrepreneurship. I managed the occasional special project, mentored reporters, and frequently spoke onstage or led discussions at events produced by Inc and others. In 2019, I created the Fundery, the only searchable database, open to any founder, of venture funds with a mandate to invest in under-represented founders. In 2017, I was a member of the U.S. delegation to the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Hyderabad, India. The U.S. State Department sponsored me for an eight-day speaking tour of Belgium and The Netherlands, addressing entrepreneurs, women, and business. Before joining Inc., I was a senior editor at BusinessWeek, where I directed all coverage of small business and entrepreneurship and was the founding editor of a spin-off publication devoted to small business. I hired a fantastic team and we won a slew of awards. I have also covered finance and technology, and worked as a photo assistant for both National Geographic and commercial photographers. I am one of the few 'word' people who genuinely enjoys working with an art staff.
