With a lifelong interest in sustainable health, a University degree in Applied Health Sciences, a 20+ year career in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, along with my new role of motherhood, I was acutely aware of the bio-accumulative impact of toxic chemicals from plastics on growing bodies. I also found that North Americans were lagging behind much of the world in their knowledge, and options, of 'healthier' products and practices. What started as a personal search for better food containers for my home became a mission to educate families on the threats of microplastics and hormone-disrupting chemicals on our bodies, the environment, and our communities. Out of this, Dalcini Stainless was born. We are ingesting an unprecedented amount of microplastics and hormone-disrupting chemicals, daily. And much of it is being consumed unknowingly with our food. In 2009 Health Canada banned the use of Bisphenol A (BPA) in baby bottles and in 2012, the US FDA followed in Canada’s footsteps, with a similar ban. But despite both countries declaring BPA a toxic substance to human health and the environment, neither Canada nor the US has yet extended the ban to food containers. Instead, manufacturers took shortcuts and began creating BPA-free versions by substituting BPA with two other hormone-disrupting chemicals which studies show are no safer. Realizing the need for durable, easy to clean and chemical-free food containers, I launched the award-winning DALCINI ® Stainless housewares in 2015; a safe, simple, sustainable solution. www.dalcinistainless.com I've been an outspoken advocate on sustainability, health, toxic chemicals, microplastics, DIY home, and wellness alternatives. I won the Mompreneur™ Start Up Award in 2016 and have been featured on CTV, CHCH, BT, Rogers, Turner Radio, Newstalk1010, Parents Canada, Ecoparent, CFRA, The Balancing Act Podcast, and many other publications.
